Bangladesh Tea Workers

Tea workers in Bangladesh remain in a precarious situation, with modest wage gains (at least on paper) but there are continuing arrears, poverty, and protests over unpaid dues and basic rights. This refers to Bangladesh in general. Not necessarily this tea garden.

Low Wages

Daily wages were increased after major strikes in recent years, and a tripartite agreement now provides for about a 5% annual wage rise for tea workers and staff between 2024 and 2025.
Despite this, many workers report months of unpaid or delayed wages and arrears that can reach tens of thousands of taka, prompting fresh demonstrations and threats of renewed movements.
